Obesity has risen to epidemic levels in the United States. It is the most common chronic disease, affecting more than one-third of our population. Individuals with obesity may suffer devastating and costly health problems, face reduced life expectancy, and experience stigma and discrimination. Recent studies have demonstrated that there are 236 other diseases impacted by obesity, 13 of which are cancers.
Dr. Desai is a double board-certified Obesity and Family Medicine physician, who understands that obesity is a disease caused by a complex interplay among genetics, the environment, and many other factors. She treats her patients holistically by addressing the medical, social, and emotional aspects of their lives. By combining science-based medicine with individualized obesity treatment, she helps guide her patients along their journey to achieving long term weight loss success.
Dr. Desai completed her undergraduate training at The University of Texas at Austin and graduated from AUC School of Medicine. She completed her residency training at Michigan State University, where she was Chief Resident during her final year. Dr. Desai is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and board-certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Diplomate of the Obesity Medicine Association. She is also a member of the Texas Medical Association & Harris County Medical Society.
